Katy Perry's ultra-religious father is now being accused of spewing anti-Semitism. The UK-based Daily Mail and other outlets including Reuters have published extensive excerpts of the sermon over the weekend, including a very anti-Jewish rant. "You know how to make the Jew jealous? Have some money, honey," Keith Hudson preached to the Church on the Rise in Westlake, OH, part of a post-divorce sermon.
The Gibson-like epithets reportedly continued. "You go to LA and they own all the Rolex and diamond places. Walk down a part of LA where we live and it is so rich it smells. You ever smell rich? They are all Jews, hallelujah. Amen."
We don't have separate confirmation or proof of these comments, though responses are already materializing. The Anti-Defamation League, for one, quickly called the comments anti-Semitic. "This is a reminder that the age-old stereotypes are alive and well and continue to bubble up to the surface in many segments of society," the group stated. "Church-based anti-Semitism historically has been one of the most virulent forms of this disease."
If indeed true, the question is whether this taints a very 'rich' Katy Perry career. This is Perry's dad making the comments, though PR teams are undoubtedly considering fallout scenarios. "Katy Perry is blameless for her parents' behavior, and it is unfortunate that her good name is now attached to her father's words," the League continued. Perry was raised in a devoutly Christian household, though attempts at a Christian-focused musical career were unsuccessful.
