BRIDGEWATER NJ — A $2,340 grant from the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour program will help to fund a performance of the folk music trio, Simple Gifts, at 7:30 p.m. on April 20 at the Bridgewater Library.
A second performance will take place on April 21 with the support of the Friends of the Bridgewater Library.
The central Pennsylvania-based award-winning trio of Linda Littleton, Rachel Hall, and Karen Hirshon plays twelve instruments and performs a variety of folk styles.
The group was founded by Littleton in 1989 and has played throughout the mid-Atlantic region, including appearances at the Smithsonian, Brooklyn Museum of Art, National Governors’ Convention, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Ontario Center for Performing Arts and many colleges and universities.
The trio has opened for Natalie MacMaster, Tom Paxton, John McCutcheon, Robin and Linda Williams, Jay Unger and Molly Mason, and Boys of the Lough.
The group has recorded six albums.
Its latest, “Crossing Borders: Music of Many Lands,” was recognized by Indie Acoustic as including “one of the best songs of 2005.”
Its previous album, “Time and Again,” won a bronze star (third place) in the Crossroads Music Awards.
Traditional music from Romania, Hungary, Russia, Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland, Scotland, France, Sweden, Denmark and America, plus original compositions by group members, are included in its recordings.
The Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour or PennPAT program was created as a public/private partnership administered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
It receives funding and guidance from its four founding partners — the Heinz Endowments, William Penn Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Pew Charitable Trusts.
PennPAT supports Pennsylvania-based professional performing arts groups so that they can go on tour. It does this through grants to presenters and artists, in addition to training for artists and marketing support.
